Three Karachi policemen, facing charges of murdering a young man at the entrance of his apartment building, have confessed to gunning down the unarmed citizen in stark contravention of standard operating procedures.
Twenty-six-year-old Amir Hussain was shot by three policemen at a residential apartment building (Noman Avenue) near Gulistan-e-Jauhar Morr within the Shahrah Faisal police remits on Tuesday night. Eyewitnesses said police personnel gunned down Amir on the staircase in front of them, and also questioned why the police shot him over a suspicion of robbery when he was standing with a minor girl.

According to investigating authorities, officer Shahryar fired two shots at the deceased Amir Hussain. When they found Amir unarmed, the cops planted a government pistol on Amir’s body to later claim that he was carrying weapons. The cops shot the boy without any provocation.
The cops also told the investigation team that they thought Amir had pulled out a pistol when Amir had gestured to them with his hand. The three cops in question were deployed on a motorcycle on Karachi’s Rashid Minhas Road.
Shahryar, the cop who fired the shots, and officer Nasir were appointed in 2018. The third cop, Faisal, was recruited in 2012. All three are part of the Shaheen Force, a specialized police unit created to curb street crime in Karachi.
Investigating authorities were working to verify if any criminal record of Amir Hussain existed or not.
A case has been registered against the three police officials at Shahrah Faisal police station Karachi under sections 302 (murder), 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code, and section 7-ATA (Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997).
Amir’s mother has demanded justice for the senseless killing by law enforcers.
