The Lahore High Court reinstated Pervez Elahi as Punjab Chief Minister on the guarantee that he will not dissolve the provincial assembly before he has sought a vote of confidence of the provincial assembly.

The guarantee was provided by Elahi’s counsel Ali Zafar a day earlier, bringing days of intense wrangling to an end, on Friday.

However, soon after the verdict reinstating him on his post was issued, the PML-Q leader took to Twitter to categorically announce that he will, in fact, dissolve the assembly.

Not just that, but he reiterated PTI chairman Imran Khan’s stance on dissolving the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly, too.

“The decision to dissolve the courts is final; Imran Khan’s decision will be fully implemented,” Elahi wrote on the micro-blogging platform.

He added that the “imported government” wanted to evade elections, saying “we will take the imported government to the court of masses, who will be the final decision-makers.”

Although the court had said that the decision issued wasn’t ‘binding’ the parties to take the vote, Justice Abid Aziz was quoted as saying that Elahi should have sought the vote when he was asked to.

Interestingly, the PML-Q leader didn’t mention the vote of confidence in the aforesaid tweet of his.

Elahi had approached the court, terming the move “unconstitutional, unlawful, and of no legal effect”.

On Dec 19, a delegation of PPP and PML-N submitted the motion against Elahi, saying political parties have lost their confidence in him as the Leader of the House.
