Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan has announced to dissolve the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies next Friday (December 23).

The ex-premier made the announcement in a video address, flanked by Punjab CM Pervez Elahi and KP CM Mahmood Khan.

Imran said that once the assemblies are dissolved, the party will begin its preparations for elections.

“We will approach the Speaker NA and demand him to accept our resignations,” he maintained.

On December 14, while speaking on Naya Daur TV’s flagship programme Khabar Say Aagay, analyst Shahbaz Mian predicted that Imran Khan might dissolve Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab assemblies on December 23.

In his video address today, Khan said that the only person responsible for the Pakistan’s current mess was ex-Chief of Army Staff General (retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa.

This person, Khan added, got the sitting PTI government removed. “I earlier abstained from talking about him because he was the commander of the armed forces at the time.”

According to the PTI chief, “thieves” are sitting at the helm of affairs, and the country’s economy is witnessing an unprecedented plunge.

He went on to add that Gen (retired) Bajwa threatened everyone associated with his party in order to intimidate them.

Imran, between the lines, also held the former army chief responsible for what happened to journalist Arshad Sharif, politician Azam Swati, and members of his social media team.

“It is indeed true that General Bajwa granted [PML-N leaders] NRO-II so they couldn’t be held accountable.”

General elections

The former premier feared that the incumbent rulers won’t let general elections take place even in October 2023.

He once again accused the ECP of colluding with the PML-N to ensure that the elections are delayed.

“As soon as I am well, I will take to the streets again to resume the struggle for Pakistan.”

He also vowed to teach the rulers in the Centre “a lesson” with a sweeping victory in the polls.

Last month, Imran said his party would distance itself from the “corrupt political system” by quitting the provincial assemblies.
