Ex-Servicemen Behind Delay In PTI’s Foreign Funding Verdict: Report

Former military officers caused delay in the PTI’s foreign funding case, according to a report published on Tuesday.

Conversely, it adds, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) wasn’t pressurised to announce the verdict of the much-anticipated case, as claimed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan.

The report by senior investigative journalist Ansar Abbasi quoted the former premier as saying on multiple occasions that the top electoral authority was asked to announce the verdict against him and his party.

However, a source told Abbasi that the ex-servicemen were behind the aforesaid delay in the verdict.

As soon as the powerful quarters decided to step aside, the ECP was able to announce the verdict, on merit.

The case faced the unusual delay at a time when ties between the establishment and Imran Khan were at their peak.

In August this year, the ECP, in a unanimous verdict, ruled that the PTI did receive prohibited funding and issued a notice to the party inquiring why its funds should not be confiscated, in view of the decision.
