Afghan Child Killed After Abuse; Violence Against Children Rising In Karachi

Another minor girl was killed after being allegedly gang-raped in Karachi today (Tuesday 13 December). This is the third rape-cum-murder case reported in the metropolitan city in the past few weeks.

According to local reports, a six-year-old girl went missing from outside her house. Later, the girl’s lifeless body was recovered from a deserted house near Gulshan-e-Maymar Afghan camp police check post.

Police reached the spot and shifted the dead body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy and medicolegal formalities.

A resident of the area told police that the whole area was completely dark due to loadshedding. Locals searched for the six-year-old using torches, and found the body in a room at an abandoned house a few miles away from her residence.

The ill-fated child's family demands justice and appeals to police to arrest the suspects and give exemplary punishment to them. The victim had six siblings, and was the fourth child of her parents. She lived in the Afghan camp with her family. Her father is differently abled after losing his leg in an accident six months ago.

Initial police investigations showed that it was a case of murder after alleged gang rape. Officials said additional details would become clear after the postmortem.
