Justice Ayesha Malik, the first woman to be named a Supreme Court judge in Pakistan, has been ranked amongst the 100 Most Influential Women of 2022.
In its profile of the jurist, the BBC noted how Justice Malik had delivered verdicts securing women’s rights. This, the BBC noted, included a “landmark judgement” proscribing the “so-called two-finger test” of rape victims. The tests would be carried out in connection with cases of sexual assault before being banned in 2021.
Justice Malik, the BBC said in its profile, also trains judges the world over and has encouraged talk on making gender perspective a part of the justice system.
Justice Malik was a Lahore High Court (LHC) judge prior to her 2022 elevation to the top court. Justice Malik is a Harvard alumna. She was a Landon H. Gammon Fellow for academic excellence there.
