Lahore Schools To Remain Closed Three Days A Week Due To Smog
Owing to the dire smog situation in the province, the Punjab government has decided to close schools across Lahore three days a week in a bid to minimise exposure to the hazardous smog.

In a late night notification issued on Tuesday, the Punjab government has ordered that schools remain closed from Friday to Sunday, giving students an additional day off from school.

"In compliance with the directions of honourable Lahore High Court, Lahore, in writ petition No. 227807/ 2018 vide order dated 02-12-2022, it is notified that owing to prevailing SMOG condition, all Public & Private Schools in District Lahore shall remain closed on every Friday & Saturday, in addition to the weekly holiday on Sunday till further orders," read the notice.

Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Shahid Karim had ordered the government to issue directives for the closure of schools for at least three days a week. The decision was given while hearing public interest petitions on environmental concerns.

Accordingly, the Punjab’s School Education Department issued the notification late night on Tuesday, and it was submitted to the LHC today (Wednesday).
