One day after rejecting his resignation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has appointed Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar as the Federal Minister for Law once again.

Tarar, who had previously been appointed as the Law Minister when the coalition government came into power in April, had tendered his resignation as minister on October 25, citing personal reasons. His resignation was formally rejected by PM Shehbaz Sharif the day General Asim Munir took over as the new chief of army staff.

The Cabinet Division issued a notification today (Wednesday) that read, “In terms of rule 3(4) of the Rules of Business, 1973, the prime minister has been pleased to allocate the portfolio of law and Justice to Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, Federal Minister, with immediate effect. Consequently, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Political Affairs, shall cease to hold the portfolio of law and Justice.”

Tarar had been conveyed the premier’s message at his residence in Islamabad on Tuesday by a delegation of government officials, led by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and consisting of Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Economic Affairs Minister Ayaz Sadiq, and Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique.

He had then agreed to take over responsibilities as the law minister once again and assumed his role once again today.

In October, it was speculated that Tarar’s presence at the Asma Jahangir Conference over the weekend, where anti-army slogans were raised in his presence had led to his resignation.
