This is the second time in less than two months that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) arrested the PTI Senator Azam Swati.
Since then Swati has claimed he was treated brutally and was tortured in custody. He has also demanded that two military officials responsible for his mistreatment be arrested.
In his tweets yesterday Swati used foul language, termed as ‘obnoxious language’ against those two military officials causing his arrest early this morning.
In a FIR filed against him, andd three other Twitter accounts — @Wolf1Ak, @HaqeeqatTV_20 and @Azaadi99 — it is stated that they conducted themselves “with malafide intentions and ulterior motives, started [a] highly obnoxious campaign of intimidating tweets […] against state institutions” and senior government functionaries, including outgoing army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
Soon after Swati’s arrest, the Pakistan Electronic Media and Regulatory Authority (Pemra) banned any media coverage of the senator, taking the decision under Section 27(a) of the Pemra (Amendment) Act, 2007.
