Policeman Shot Dead By Son Of Ex-Deputy Commissioner In Karachi
In a tragic incident, a man identified as the son of a former deputy commissioner shot a policeman to death following a heated altercation in Karachi's Defence Housing Authority (DHA) late night on Monday.

Surveillance footage from the night of the event shows a black car parked in a street in a residential area in Karachi's DHA. Two armed men got out of the car, and appear to have a heated exchange, after which one of them shot the other and drove off.

According to police sources, the victim was identified as Abdul Rehman, and was a police man, while the shooter was identified as Khurram Nisar and is reportedly the son of a former deputy commissioner.

South SSP Syed Asad Raza told Dawn News that Abdur Rehman and a second policeman had been conducting a routine patrol on their motorbike in Clifton, where they had seen the suspect allegedly force a woman to get into his car as she screamed.

Suspecting a case of abduction, the two police men apprehended Nisar, during which the woman ran away. They tried to get the suspect to come with them to the police station where the incident took place, but he refused, leading to an altercation between him and Abdur Rehman, after which he shot the policeman at point-blank range.

“The martyred cop, in the line of duty, sped after the black car and intercepted it near Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s mausoleum as soon as the driver pulled over. He then opened the front passenger side door and sat in the car. However, as soon as he got in the car, a girl sitting in the backseat bolted out of the vehicle,” the police FIR said.

Police have so far managed to retrieve both the murder weapon and the vehicle, but the suspect remains at large. Nisar is said to be an expatriate living in Sweden, who had come to Pakistan on November 5. Police claim to have seized a copy of his passport, and have alerted all major airports and highway police about the suspect in order to arrest him in case of an escape attempt.

The funeral prayers of the martyred policeman were offered at the Police Headquarters in Garden after Tuesday's Asr prayers.
