Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said on Tuesday that the new chief of army staff (COAS) will be named in the next 48 hours.
He made the comments while speaking to Geo News. The defence minister said the ministry will receive the names of top military men tomorrow. The names will be forwarded to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif who will then take a call.
The names, he said, the General Headquarters (GHQ) was empowered to forward. Asif said there was no truth to rumours about civil-military tension. He said incumbent COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa had great regard for Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif.
Asif earlier said on Monday that the process to appoint the chief of army staff (COAS) and joint chiefs of staff committee (JCSC) had kicked-off. His tweet follows weeks of nationwide frenzy on the pivotal military appointments.
