Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is adamant about appointing an army chief of his choice, journalist Aijaz Ahmad said on Monday.
He made the comments at flagship Naya Daur TV show Khabar Say Aagay. Ahmad said Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari had also stressed the importance of finding common ground between ‘Rawalpindi’ and ‘Islamabad”. Sharif, he said, should exhibit some flexibility on the matter. He said a consensus on the top military appointment was yet to be achieved.
Analyst Salman Abid said reports of differences on the appointment definitely had merit since a unanimous name would not be presented by those consulted on the matter. This, he said, was not necessarily unwelcome.
He said Finance Minister Ishaq Dar having taken what had been termed serious notice of incumbent COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s assets leak was representative of how well-enshrined democracy was in the country.
Flagship Naya Daur TV show Khabar Say Aagay streams Monday to Saturday at 9pm
Mere speculation without any grain of truth. Muzammil got it right.
Nawaz does not seem to be bothered contrary to what’s being asserted in the press. He is away on see europe tour with Maryam and family.
Looks like Shahbaz has been briefed and he will not divulge the details until last minute as Nawaz has done many a time before.
So unless someone uses truth serum to squeeze it out of Shahbaz in his sleep it’s going to be another week of guess the name of COAS.
