Lt. Gen Asim Munir Is The Consensus Candidate As New Army Chief, Claims Journalist
ISLAMABAD: Sharifs and the GHQ have developed a consensus that the senior most Lt. General will be appointed as the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS). Lt Gen Asim Munir will be senior most amongst the top three candidates at the time of General Bajwa's retirement on November 29, 2022.

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz Supremo Nawaz Sharif has finalised the name for the appointment of Chief of Army Staff, senior journalist Rauf Klasra revealed in his TV Show.

According to the sources, Rauf Klasra said, Sharifs and the Pindi (GHQ) have developed consensus that the senior most in the rank shall be appointed as Chief of Army Staff.
Lt Gen Asim Munir will be senior most amongst the top three candidates at the time of General Bajwa's retirement, stated Rauf Klasra.

Few days ago, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of Pakistan Army had issued a press release stating therein that General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited Sialkot and different formations as a part of farewell bid.

The statement by ISPR had dampened the rumors regarding extension in services of Qamar Javed Bajwa as COAS despite the fact that the latter had on many occasions confirmed that he would not seek extension.

The appointment of COAS by the new elected government has been the longstanding demand by former Prime Minister Imran Khan who is currently on long march in favor of his demands including early elections.

Observers say that the appointment of Lt General Asim Munir as COAS will be a setback for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on many levels. It is learnt that senior most officer was a top choice by PMLN Supremo Nawaz Sharif.

During Imran Khan's tenure, Gen. Asim Munir served as DG ISI for a few months. Khan picked Lt. Gen Faiz Hameed as his replacement.
