'Nawaz Sharif Does Not Err When Selecting COAS'
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif does not err when it comes to appointing an army chief fit for the post, scholar Ayesha Siddiqa said on Monday.

She made the comments in flagship Naya Daur TV show Khabar Say Aagay. The senior Sharif, Siddiqa said, erred much like former prime ministers Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Imran Khan by believing whoever was appointed will remain beholden.

The Pakistan Military Inc author said the Sharif's were very much a political family where key decisions were taken as is. She said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif must have consulted his brother over the appointment of the next army chief. Even if this was limited to the elder Sharif handing out preferences, it must have happened.

Journalist Amber Shamsi said whatever the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman had commented in his address today was crystal clear. He had made it abundantly clear, she said, that the time was ripe to turn a new leaf. He also spoke about how he should not have proceeded with his visit to Russia, Shamsi said. The journalist said the PTI supremo boasted a varied arsenal now that was not restricted to the United States having conspired to have him removed from office.

Flagship Naya Daur TV show Khabar Say Aagay streams Monday to Saturday at 9pm.
