Bilal Lashari directorial The Legend of Maula Jatt has emerged as the highest-grossing Punjabi film of all time worldwide.
The film achieved the feat in the fourth week of its release. By raking in over 1,720 million (172 crores) The Legend of Maula Jatt has outshined all other Punjabi blockbusters including Carry on Jatta 2, Saunkan Saunkne and Chal Mera Putt 2.
The Mahira-Fawad starrer, which continues to mint money at the international box office, has been on a record-breaking spree. The film had earlier broken into the coveted 1,500 million (150 crore) club. The makers of the film announced the same in a Tuesday post on the official Instagram handle of the film. “Taking the worldwide box office by storm, The Legend of Maula Jatt sets a new record for the Pakistani cinema with 150 Crore! #TheLegendOfMaulaJatt is screening in all cinemas across Pakistan now, book your tickets today!”
The Bilal Lashari directorial earlier emerged as the highest grossing Punjabi film of all time in the United Kingdom. The film had also collected over US$5 million worldwide then, a post shared on the official Instagram of the handle said. The aforementioned figure translates into a whopping sum exceeding Rs1,100 million (110 crore). The Fawad-Mahira Khan starrer had earlier made history by becoming the first film to enter the coveted 100-crore figure.
The Legend of Maula Jatt opened to rave reviews following its October 13 release. Fawad Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi and Humaima Malik headline the cast. It also stars Mahira Khan, Faris Shafi and Gohar Rasheed.
