'Army Chief Appointment Always Significant Since Establishment Pre-Eminent'
The appointment of every successive chief of army staff (COAS) carries great significance since the establishment has always been pre-eminent in Pakistan, analyst Salman Abid said on Wednesday.

Abid made the comments in flagship Naya Daur TV show Khabar Say Aagay. The PTI chairman, he said, had been trying to exert pressure. Whether he tasted success, Abid said, would become evident over the following days.

Columnist Muzamal Suharwardy said the recently-concluded Corps' Commanders Conference was not the first to not have a press statement issued in its wake. He reminisced about how once Asif Ghafoor had been queried the same after the conclusion of an earlier conference. Silence too was an answer, Ghafoor had commented in response, according to Suharwardy.

Journalist Nadia Naqi said she had spoken to a confidante of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who had told her that no extension will be given to COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa. Naqi said the individual had told her a new army chief will be appointed in accordance with procedure.

flagship Naya Daur TV show Khabar Say Aagay streams Monday to Saturday at 9pm.
