A new video of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan's attacker has surfaced in which he says he wanted to kill the PTI chief because he had 'claimed prophethood by comparing himself to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)'.

The assailant, who was identified as Naveed Ahmad, had shot the PTI chief when the long march caravan reached Wazirabad, injuring him in his leg. It was alter learned that one by-stander was killed, while 14 others were injured as a result of the spray of bullets.

In a newly released video of the attacker supposedly in police custody admits to attempting to kill Imran Khan because he had 'claimed prophethood'.

"He used to say that among so many thieves I am a prophet; follow me like you would follow a prophet," he said, adding, "He would say that just like Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would address the nation, just like that he is also addressing the country so they should listen to him, and this did not sit well with my conscience."

He also said that he regretted that he was not able to kill Imran Khan, because his 'purpose was left unaccomplished'.
