The federal cabinet on Wednesday approved a summary on circulation imposing a seven-year jail term in connection with proliferation of false information on social media.
The cabinet authorised the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to take action against those proliferating false information on social media under the initiative. The proposal also envisages the addition of Pakistan Penal Code Section 505 (Delivering or Proliferating False Information) to the FIA Act. The Parliament will have final word on the matter.
