Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz Sharif has apologised for her insensitive tweet regarding the dead body of slain journalist Arshad Sharif, which drew a lot of outrage online.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif had on Tuesday re-tweeted a tweet that claimed that Arshad Sharif had often made insensitive jokes about PML-N Supremo Nawaz Sharif’s late mother. Quoting the tweet, Maryam had said, “I don’t feel good RTing this but this is a lesson for the mankind that we must all imbibe.”
However, her tweet angered social media users, who accused her of being insensitive, with many journalists urging her to delete her tweet as it was not in good taste.
Late night on Tuesday, she issued an apology for her now-deleted earlier tweet, saying that her intention was not to mock anyone. "I am undoing the tweet & apologise for the hurt it may have caused to the aggrieved which never was my intention," she wrote, adding that she hopes that no one has to go through the pain of losing a loved one in this manner.
