Meher Bano Qureshi —daughter of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi, lost the NA-157 Multan 4 seat to Syed Ali Musa Gillani —son of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Yousaf Raza Gillani in Sunday’s by-elections.
The children of the two prominent —and opposing— political leadership were competing for a National Assembly seat in Multan, which is where both hail from.
Gillani managed to secure 79,743 votes, while Qureshi got 59,993, resulting in Gillani winning the coveted National Assembly seat by a little under 20,000 votes. The Multan constituency has long been a source of rivalry between the two political families.
Following her defeat, Meher Bano took to Twitter to thank her supporters and vowed to continue supporting her constituency.

Meanwhile Ali Musa Gillani also took to Twitter thanking his party’s chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari who had also congratulated him. “May this be one of the many victories that we share together under your leadership,” he wrote.
In the words of your mother and our leader "Democracy is the Best Revenge" Thankyou Chairman sb for your unwavering commitment to this ideology. May this be one of the many victories that we share together under your leadership. #tolerantpakistan https://t.co/n1EjRpo4ek
