'Mentally-Ill' Man Axes Eight To Death In Sheikhupura

Eight individuals sleeping outside their homes have been axed to death in Punjab's Sheikhupura district.


The incident transpired in Narangmandi village Hacchar, according to a BBC Urdu report filed on Saturday. Sheikhupura police have claimed to nab to a suspect in connection with the killings. DPO Faisal Mukhtar also claimed that the force had seized the implement used to kill the individuals.


Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has taken notice of the incident and directed police to present a report. According to a preliminary probe, the suspect had attacked people sleeping in fields and alleys in the area. DPO Mukhtar said the 22-year-old suspect would undergo a psychological examination. He said the man had attacked the individuals after 3am in the morning. A police unit has sealed the area.


Locals told police that the suspect was a graduate who used to tutor children in the area. Children had stopped frequenting his lessons due to his declining mental health. He was stressed having been rendered unemployed, they said.
