An Islamabad court on Tuesday discharged veteran journalist Ayaz Amir from the murder case of his daughter-in-law, Sara Inam.

Amir’s son Shahnawaz had allegedly killed his wife Sarah at their home in Chak Shahzad area of the federal capital after a row over a family issue last week.

The journalist was arrested on Saturday night for his alleged involvement in the murder.

During the hearing of the case today, the police requested the court to grant a five-day extension in the physical remand of Amir for further interrogation.

The police informed the court that the journalist had come in contact with the prime suspect at the time of murder.

Amir’s lawyer maintained that his client has no connection with this case and the police have no evidence against him.

He said that the police have not been able to satisfy the court regarding the basis of which evidence the journalist was arrested. He urged the court to discharge his client from the case.

Subsequently, the court reserved its verdict on the police’s request for an extension in Amir’s remand and later ruled that the journalist should be released from the case.
