Great Probability Of Maryam's Conviction Being Overturned: Lawyer Raza Rahman
There is great probability of the conviction of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz Sharif being overturned in the Avenfield case, lawyer Raza Rahman said on Tuesday.

Rahman made the comments while appearing in flagship Naya Daur TV show Khabar Say Aagay. He said this was likely since no question of aiding and abetting arose if it stood proved that a crime had not been committed in the first place. He said this may very well bode well for PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif. Rahman said the verdict being overturned would represent nothing but a miscarriage of justice.

He said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan's tweet on Section 5:1 of the Official Secrets Act was remarkably foolish. Rahman said there was nothing wrong in the prime minister conferring with ministers on an appointment.

Lawyer Muzamal Suharwardy said former information minister Fawad Chaudhry's tweet on the proceedings today was representative of how the case was reaching its logical conclusion. He said the questions raised by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) today ought to have been raised by the trial court. Suharwardy said the trial court having overlooked such pivotal aspects constituted a marked failing of the enshrined legal system.

He said Khan was not suited to play on the pitch he aspired to be at. Suharwardy likened the PTI chairman's politics to a 'fixed' innings. He was simply not suited for politics of resistance, he said.

Flagship Naya Daur TV show Khabar Say Aagay broadcasts every Monday-Friday at 9pm.
