Special Report: Flood Devastation In Dera Ismail Khan Division
The monsoon rains from June till August have left a devastating impact in the Dera Ismail Khan Division. As per the DI Khan Division disaster management authority, 44,869 homes have been damaged out of which 25,898 houses have been completely destroyed and 18,971 partially damaged.

According to the PDMA, 44 people have died and 120 have been injured. But some say the death toll is higher. In the district of Tank, the PDMA claims there have been 3 deaths but it is speculated that there could have been 6 deaths. In the Dera district, flooded rails have caused 27 deaths and in South Waziristan 15 people have died.



As per the PDMA, there is also mass infrastructure damage in all areas. Around 24,503 houses in Dera district, 1,380 houses in Tank and 15 houses in South Waziristan have been damaged.

In DI Khan districts, 70 to 80% of the areas of Hazara Pakka and Makarh Barani bazaars/markets have been affected by overflowing drains.

Fakhr Khan, the mayor of the area Parwa in the district of DI Khan, where 12,000 houses have been completely washed away, says that although relief operations are being conducted, the level of the destruction is hampering all efforts to help and aid victims.
