Art has a wonderful way of bringing communities together, so its no wonder that when that very community needs the most assistance, artists are there at the forefront, ready to give back. As Pakistan is hit by the worst flooding in its history, with a death toll of over 1000 and millions left homeless, these artists are using their livelihoods to collect aid for flood victims.

1. Isma Gul Hasan

Isma is an artist currently based in Karachi, where she teaches design and illustration at Habib University. Having worked as an animator at Shehri Pakistan and Puffball Studios, where she worked on Pakistan’s first animated dystopian short film ‘Shehr-e-Tabbassum’, Isma makes wonderful artwork that explores themes of resistance and gender. She has put up all her artwork for sale, and all the money will go towards flood relief.

3. Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA)

PNCA is holding a Grand Art Fundraiser in collaboration with Nomad Gallery to support the flood affected individuals of the country. They said in their caption “We would urge one and all to please visit the Exhibition, with exquisite artworks, and to invest generously in acquiring works of your choice, be it for your homes or offices,” adding that this would be an investment in humanity.

5. Meera Jee

Lollywood legend Meera staged a dance performance in Times Square, New York for the international Pakistani community, during which she appealed to the audience for donations for the flood victims in Pakistan. She said on Instagram, “Today I performed in New York to raise money for flood victims. My sincere request to Muslims everywhere is as follows: Please let’s join hands and work towards this jointly. Let’s just open our hearts and homes to the families of flood victims. Together, we can accomplish anything. Let’s not belittle those that ask for assistance. Together, we can.”
