Aamir Khan-starrer Laal Singh Chaddha has raked in over US$7.5 million at the international box office following the conclusion of two weeks since its release.
The development, according to Bollywood Hungama, makes the film the highest Bollywood grosser of 2022 at the international circuit. The film’s aforementioned collections exceed those of Gangubai Kathiawadi (US$7.47m), Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (US$5.88m) and The Kashmir Files (US$5.7m).
Laal Singh Chaddha, which was mired in controversies in the run-up to its release, tanked at the Indian box office and opened to mixed reviews. The film also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan.
Indian film critic Taran Adarsh described the film’s day one as “shockingly low”. In a tweet he said, “The dull start has added to the woes of an ailing industry… Better at premium multiplexes, but mass circuits are weak… Needs to score big numbers from Fri-Sun to salvage the situation.” Despite the poor figures, the film managed to be listed as the third biggest Bollywood release of 2022 falling behind Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (INR14.1 crores) and Bachchhan Paandey (INR13.2 crores).
