A Nepali climber has set a record by scaling all the world’s 14 peaks higher than 8,000 metres for a second time.

Kathmandu-based Pioneer Adventure, 47-year-old Sanu Sherpa’s agency, said he had ascended Pakistan’s Gasherbrum II (8,035 metres) on Thursday. The peak is the 13th highest in the world.

Pioneer Adventure executive director Nibesh Karki told Reuters Sanu was the only person in the world to scale each of the 14 loftiest mountains twice. Sanu had earlier said in an interview that he had started mountaineering after working as a porter for climbing expeditions. “I simply love climbing. It feels so good to be in the mountain,” he added.

Last month, mountaineer Samina Baig had become the first Pakistani woman to climb K2 – the second highest mountain in the world. Samina scaled Mount Everest – the highest mountain in the world – in 2013. The 31-year-old also holds the honour of scaling the seven highest peaks in the world known as the Seven Summits.
