Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb on Saturday dismissed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s allegation that its leader Shahbaz Gill was subjected to torture under police custody.
Addressing a presser in Islamabad, the minister termed the torture allegation “propaganda” and said that the PTI is trying to divert attention from the sedition case registered against Gill.
She also aired a recent video of Gill with Islamabad police and claimed that it shows Gill is “perfectly fine” and interacting with police without the need for an oxygen mask.
Earlier, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that Gill has been ‘faking’ being abused while under arrest, adding that ‘no abuse has taken place’.
On Friday, PTI chairman Imran Khan claimed that Gill was sexually abused in police custody. The former prime minister also hinted at the ‘establishment’ having a role in the affair.
In a couple of tweets, he said that all the pictures and videos [being circulated on media] show clearly that Gill was tortured mentally and physically.
“He [Gill] was humiliated to break him down. I now have full detailed info. [The] ICT police say they did not inflict any torture. So my question is who tortured Gill. There is a general perception in the public at large and in our minds too as to who could have carried out the gruesome torture,” he said.
“Remember the public will react. We will leave no stone unturned to find out those responsible and bring them to justice,” he added.
Gill was arrested on August 9 for inciting violence against state institutions.
