Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shahbaz Gill has invoked senior journalist Hamid Mir’s statements on his alleged torture in a petition against an extension in his remand, it emerged on Thursday.

Sharing an excerpt from Gill’s petition journalist Asad Ali Toor said the party was using Hamid Mir and Geo News to further their own interests. “On one side they blame Geo or bias and troll Mir sahib [on] social media but on other side they are using [the] name of Geo for their benefit,” he wrote in the tweet.

Gill was arrested on August 9 for inciting violence against state institutions. Following the arrest, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said that Gill was picked up by unidentified personnel in cars with missing number plates.

PTI chairperson Imran Khan claimed on Tuesday that Gill was tortured in police custody. He alleged that Gill was coerced into implicating him in connection with the recent anti-military tirade. He went on to allege that Gill was also asked to “reveal” how many times Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed had called on the PTI chief.
