Bubbli Malik Becomes First Trans Woman To Address NA
Bubbli Malik made history on Friday by becoming the first transgender woman to address the National Assembly. At her suggestion, Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf used gender-inclusive terminology to address parliamentarians.

At the National Assembly session yesterday, she suggested that instead of addressing the floor of the house by saying 'Khawateen-o-Hazrat' (ladies and gentlemen), the National Assembly speaker should say 'Hazreen-e-Mehfil' (people present at the gathering). This suggestion was accepted by Raja Pervez Ashraf, who henceforth used the more inclusive terminology.

Social media users have been full of praise for the positive step forward towards creating a more inclusive environment, as well as for the historic moment.

Some people suggested that the state should provide even more mechanisms to protect and promote transgender rights, while others questioned why such a historic moment had not made it to the mainstream media?
