The federal government has urged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to issue its verdict in the PTI’s foreign funding case.

On June 21, the commission had reserved its verdict in the case.

PTI’s founding member Akbar S Babar had filed the case in 2014, alleging that the party had received foreign funding.

In a tweet, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah urged the commission to “immediately” announce the decision of the case.

“PTI lawyers resorted to delaying tactics for eight years by filing nine writ petitions during the proceedings but now the decision is already reserved,” he said, adding that a further delay is “incomprehensible”.

Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif also took to Twitter and said that the foreign funding case is an example of “how ladla [Imran Khan] is being protected”.

“[Nawaz Sharif] was convicted for not taking a salary, ‘Ladla’ is untouchable. Eight years on, the decision is still elusive,” the prime minister said.

Meanwhile, in a press conference, PPP’s senior leader and Adviser to Prime Minister on Kashmir Affairs Qamar Zaman Kaira said: “We don’t want to head towards a clash between institutions; however, people are waiting for the verdict which has been reserved.”

That sword is meant to be left hanging and will only fall when it loses its utility. The owner of the sword knows when to move it.

It can also be dangled on other heads as well so PDM guys shouldn’t push their luck.
