A boat carrying more than 100 passengers, including women and children, overturned in Indus River near Sadiqabad town of Rahim Yar Khan earlier today, leaving at least 19 people dead.

According to a report published by Express News, the passengers were heading towards Machka from Kharor to attend a wedding ceremony when the incident occurred.

The locals rushed to help the passengers and saved many of them. However, several failed to survive, with 19 bodies recovered so far.

According to officials, most of those who lost their lives to the capsizing included women.

Meanwhile, the Rahim Yar Khan deputy commissioner said that the boat met the accident due to overloading and high flow of water, adding that a rescue operation is still underway to rescue any other passengers of the boat.

“Nineteen bodies have been pulled from the water while a search operation is underway for the remaining passengers,” the DC added.

Earlier on May 15, four children went missing when a boat carrying eight passenger overturned in the Ravi near Nankana Sahib.

A rescue team managed to bring four of passengers of the boat back to safety. An operation was also carried out to find the missing children.

Those who were rescued included two women and a two-and-a-half-year-old baby girl.
