No Bill Against Enforced Disappearances Can Resolve The Issue, Says Interior Minister
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has said that presenting bills for the recovery of missing persons in the Parliament alone will not resolve the issue and such bills will continue to go ‘missing’.

Speaking during an interview, the minister said that the reasons behind the incidents of missing persons cannot be made public. He said that the military leadership has strongly condemned the incidents of missing persons and wants to resolve the issue.

He added that the government, military leadership, human rights organisations and other stakeholders should make joint efforts to resolve the challenges involved in the issue.

Earlier, Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Athar Minallah, while hearing petitions regarding the recovery of journalist Mudassar Naro and other missing persons, had said that the state is involved in the practice of enforced disappearances.

The CJ had asked that who should be held responsible for enforced disappearances. The deputy attorney general had told the court that the federal cabinet has formed a committee of ministers on the issue of missing persons, adding that the investigative agencies are also working on the issue.

The court had asked that would it be nice if this court issues summons to the chief executive and said that all the governments are violating the Constitution.

The issue of missing persons should have been a priority for the federal government and all political leadership, he had added.

Later, the court had adjourned the case till July 4.
