As Ms Marvel’s third episode aired in the US, we finally get to see Pakistani actor Mehwish Hayat make her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actress plays Kamala Khan’s great-grandmother, Aisha.
‘Ms Marvel‘ follows the story of a Pakistani-American teenage girl, Kamala Khan, played by Iman Vellani, a Pakistani-Canadian actor. Kamala, who is a massive superhero fan, discovers that she has superpowers after receiving a gold bangle from her grandmother Sana, played by veteran Pakistani actress Samina Ahmed.
In episode 2, Kamala gets visions of a woman who is apparently her great-grandmother Aisha, so she asks her mother and grandmother about her, only to be dismissed by both. Her father tells her that when her grandmother Sana was young, she got separated from her family during the Partition of 1947, but was mysteriously able to find her family.
Episode 2 ends with a video call between Kamala and her grandmother, where the latter is asked about the origins of the mysterious gold bangle that gave Kamala her powers. “It belonged to my mother, Aisha,” shares Samina Ahmed in the clip of the scene. “The one who disappeared during the partition, my great grandmother Aisha?” asks Kamala, leaving audiences to wonder what secrets we will discover about Aisha.
But eventually in episode 3, it seems we are fully introduced to Aisha, who is played by Mehwish Hayat. Not only that, but she also gets to share a scene with Nimra Bucha, who plays Najma.
Without giving any spoilers, let us just say that fans are buzzing about Mehwish’s entry into the show and are super excited to see the direction it takes.
