Punjab Interior Minister Attaullah Tarar has announced that Lahore police have caught the men who attacked a transgender person with acid, adding that the victim is being treated at a hospital in Lahore.

According to reports by the police, transperson Kinza was waiting for a rickshaw near Basti Sayadan Shah, when she was approached by the culprit, Hamza Saleem. He threw acid on her face and sped away.

Kinza suffered burns on the left side of her face, and her left eye and arms were also affected. She was subsequently shifted to the Services Hospital in Lahore, where after being provided treatment, she was discharged within a few hours.

Meanwhile, Lahore Operations police DIG Sohail Chaudhry has said that the suspect was captured during a raid at his house a few hours after the incident.

Interior Minister Attaullah Tarar visited the acid attack victim at the hospital and revealed that Kinza was a cook by profession. He said that the left side of her face and eye were affected, but they will be treated soon.

He congratulated the police for catching the culprits, and warned that there is zero tolerance for such acts in the future.

Previously on Monday, Attaullah Tarar, while addressing a press conference, had expressed concern over the rising rape cases in the province.

Due to this increase, he revealed that the provincial government had decided to actively work on countering this crime. “The number has increased dramatically, so we have decided to activate the Cabinet Committee,” he said.

The home minister also said that the Cabinet Committee would review the situation including law and order, consult with civil society, teachers, lawyers, and all the organizations working for women and children.
