Supporting Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Babar Iftikhar’s statement rubbishing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s ‘foreign conspiracy’ claims, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz has said that the military spokesperson’s remarks are based on facts.
On Tuesday, the DG ISPR had dismissed the claims of “foreign conspiracy” behind former prime minister Imran Khan’s ouster.
On Wednesday, PTI General Secretary Asad Umar had responded to the DG ISPR’s statement and said that the military’s opinion on national security issues cannot be taken as a final word. “No one has the right to twist and distort the facts,” he had said.
However, later in the day, the DG ISPR had clarified that he did not make any “political statements”, rather it was a clarification, on behalf of the services chiefs of the Pakistani armed forces.
Today, Maryam criticised the former prime minister’s policies and said: “Imran Khan was playing with Pakistan for four years, then when the economy was ruined, he mortgaged it to the International Monetary Fund.”
She said that the former government had laid an 'economic minefield' for the incumbent government and the former interior minister had even admitted to this.
She said that the Shehbaz-led government has not increased a single penny in the petrol price or tax at its own will, adding that it was because of the contract that the former government had signed with the IMF.
Referring to the PTI’s calls for protests against the incumbent government, Maryam said that calls for anarchy, sedition, and violence against the state will be strongly dealt with by the government.
Referring to PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif’s statement regarding ailing former president General Pervez Musharraf’s return to Pakistan, the PML-N leader said that Nawaz does not believe in personal revenge and his statements were made on humanitarian grounds.
She further said that tough decisions are necessary for the stability of the country, adding that the general election will be held on time.
