Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson Imran Khan lashed out at the coalition government over fuel price hike, saying that it 'gave in' to the strict demands of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Speaking to a rally in Buner on Friday, one day after Finance Minister Miftah Ismail raised fuel prices by an additional Rs 30, Khan said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) led coalition government did not care about the interest of the nation as their own funds were secured abroad.
He claimed the government's decision to raise fuel prices proved that they were just 'slaves' to the IMF and the US, adding that his government had been presented the same demands by the IMF, but they had not complied.
Khan said that instead of increasing prices, his government had decreased petroleum prices by Rs 10 to provide relief to the people, adding that the funds to provide the subsidy were transferred from other sources or ministries.
He claimed that the reason the current government had given in to the demands made by the IMF, was because they had no 'stake' in the nation's well-being, as their wealth and their children were all settled abroad.
The PTI chairman compared the three and a half years of his rule with the two months of the incumbent government, adding that during PTI's rule, the price of a 20 kg bag of flour increased by Rs 326 but during the last two months, there was an increase of Rs 422 in the price of flour.
