A complaint has been lodged with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Sobia Khan against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson Imran Khan for allegedly using government resources for personal benefit, with the accountability watchdog starting the investigation.

The complainant is a member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. The complaint reads: “Imran Ahmad Khan Niazi is involved in blatantly misusing resources of the Government of KP, including use of official helicopter of the KP Chief Minister for personal purposes, thus causing huge losses to the government exchequer, which is an offence under the relevant provisions of NAO, 1999.”

The statement also said that Sobia Khan would provide all the documentary evidence needed, in due time as the case progresses.

Khan is already being investigated by the NAB for another case involving the misuse of government helicopters in 2018, during the PTI government’s first stint in KP.

In February 2019, NAB took its first action against Khan and former KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak for allegedly misusing official helicopters for private visits.

An inquiry was initiated against then-CM Khattak and Khan over 74-hours unofficial use of two government helicopters — Mi-17 and Ecureuil — by misusing authority.

The bureau had said the PTI should have paid the KP government Rs 11.1 million for the helicopters but official documents only mention a payment of Rs 2.1 million.

After his ouster as prime minister on April 10, Khan was once again being accused of accruing almost Rs 980 million worth of expenses due to his traveling between Bani Gala and the PM Office in Islamabad on government helicopters.
