Justifying former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ministers’ refusal to return government vehicles and residences in their possession to the administration, party leader Fawad Chaudhry has said that they do not want to give their possessions to ‘thieves’.

He made these comments during a media talk today (Monday) outside the Supreme Court, and said that there was a careful effort being orchestrated to render the country default, so that “all our assets could be under foreign control.”

He said that there had been discussion of a crucial decision being made within the next 72 hours, and asserted that the economy of Pakistan will not be able to withstand 72 hours.

“This government must go home in the next 48 hours, and there should be an announcement about new elections,” he said.

Stressing on the fact that there was no need for a technocratic governmental set up of any sort, he said the government must hold fresh general elections, and that the interim government would only be valid for 90 days.

He also talked about Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz Sharif, claiming that he had become chief minister on his own, and was not recognized by the governor nor the president. He said that there was no governor, government or cabinet in a province that consisted of 60% of the country’s population.

Chaudhry also said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif must apologize for seeking the military’s help on the issue of petrol prices. However, he justified Omar Sarfaraz Cheema asking for help from the military, saying that he had just sought ‘administrative help’.

He also talked about PTI’s appeal to the Supreme Court against the implementation of new delimitation of constituencies, and said that if that were the case, then elections would be delayed for over a year.

“Elections must be announced immediately, which should be held in 90 days, and then we are ready to sit with the government for the next framework,” he said.
