The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a man in Peshawar on charges of circulating fake videos of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz on social media.

When PML-N supporters pointed out the fake imagery to her on twitter, she replied that she has reported them, and is awaiting action.

The FIA subsequently arrested a man named Fayyazudin, who was a PTI worker, from Warsak Road in Peshawar in connection with sharing fake videos of Maryam Nawaz Sharif. He shared screenshots of deepfakes posted to TikTok, and tagged Maryam Nawaz in the tweet warning her of the 'dangers of deepfakes'.

A spokesman for the FIA said that a report has been filed against the suspect.

Fayyazuddin was brought in front of a court that directed that the accused be sent to jail on a seven day judicial remand.
