Judge Unsatisfied With Police Investigation Into Minor Girl Nimra Kazmi's Abduction, Orders Deeper Probe
A Karachi judicial magistrate has expressed dissatisfaction with the police probe into the alleged abduction of 16-year-old Nimra Kazmi, who, according to her statement released later, had contracted a 'free-will marriage' in DG Khan Punjab. The magistrate pointed out clear discrepancies in the evidence put forward.

Nimra Kazmi went missing in Karachi's Saudabad area on April 20. The 16-year-old was found a week later in Punjab, supposedly 'happily-married' after a video message surfaced in which she claimed she had not been abducted, and instead had opted for a free-will court marriage.

Judicial Magistrate (East) Javed Ahmed Korejo pointed out that there were inaccuracies in the nikahnama (marriage certificate) and call data record (CDR) that the investigating officer had submitted today, along with other documentary evidence.

The judge pointed out that the date stated on her nikahnama was April 18, however, according to the CDR, she was shown as being present in her own house on April 20. He questioned how she could have solemnised a free-will marriage in Punjab's Taunsa Sharif, if she had physically been present in Karachi on April 20.

He remarked that the discrepancies in the dates were visible and very obvious, and reprimanded the police for not making any real efforts to investigate or arrest the suspects involved in her alleged abduction.

The magistrate claimed that the IO had not made a thorough investigation into the matter, and had merely obtained a photocopy of the marriage certificate and submitted it to the court.

He dismissed the hearing by giving the IO orders to conduct a more thorough and detailed investigation into the matter, and submit a comprehensive report by the next court date of May 9.
