PTI-Supporting Retired Army Officer Apologises For Levelling Baseless Allegations Against Naya Daur Media
Major (r) Adil Raja, a retired army officer who is a vocal supporter of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), apologised and deleted his defamatory tweet against Naya Daur Media and its editor-in-chief Raza Rumi after being warned of a lawsuit in the UK where he currently lives.

In 2020, Raja had posted a tweet accusing Raza Rumi of receiving a 'massive amount' from India, adding that it was '100% authentic information'.

On Sunday, he re-shared said defamatory tweet from 2020 and wrote, "Reason why @Razarumi; his @nayadaurpk are against me"

He was then asked to withdraw his allegations and apologise within 24 hours or face legal action in the UK.

Upon being warned of a lawsuit in the UK, the retired army officer took a u-turn, deleting his tweet and posting an apology. "I just approached my source and requested evidence for his claims. I was told that he cannot provide any for whatever reason. It was reckless of me to post something without clarification," he wrote.

He also expressed his 'sincere apologies for listening to the heresy and accepting it as the truth'.

Social media users condemned Raja's act of levelling baseless allegations, saying that his apology right after warning of a lawsuit made it clear that his claims were defamatory.

Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Sindh Cyber Crime head Imran Riaz also shared the tweets and wrote, "Sorry state of affairs in our society where anybody can have courage to defame anyone without evidence."

Others noted how such allegations may have dangerous consequences.

Former Pakistan envoy Kamran Shafi said that Raja should still be sued and said that his apology tweet means little.

Meanwhile, Raja deleted the original apology tweet and posted another one. It is unclear as to why he deleted the previous tweet in which he had issued an apology.
