While arguing before the Supreme Court today, Attorney General Khalid Jawed Khan said that he was not defending the deputy speaker's ruling rejecting the no-trust motion against Imran Khan. "I am not defending the ruling. My concern is the next elections," the attorney general said while presenting his arguments before the court.
Earlier, the attorney general also told the court that proceedings of the parliament are not completely immune from judicial review and scrutiny. PTI's lawyers had argued during the previous hearings that the court cannot object to proceedings of the parliament and therefore the deputy speaker's ruling cannot be challenged.
He however also argued that the no confidence motion was not formally accepted for hearing. He added that voting on the no-trust motion was not a fundamental right of parliamentarians.
Earlier on Wednesday, while talking to a news channel, the attorney general had said that the deputy speaker's ruling could not stand if it violates the spirit of the constitution.
