Senior journalist Najam Sethi has said that the vote of no confidence against Prime Minister Imran Khan has already succeeded and the number of dissident lawmakers of the PTI will increase. “If Imran Khan accepts his defeat, the issue will be settled,” Sethi said, but added that the prime minister might opt for unconstitutional options, which would give rise to a crisis in the country and even result in military involvement.

He expressed these views during Naya Daur Media’s Khabar se Agay on Thursday evening.

In response to a question about Imran Khan’s options, Najam Sethi said that the prime minister might be considering imposing Governor rule in Sindh as well as presidential emergency, which is not that easy. Some videos may also be leaked, he said.

Sethi added that whatever the decision, if Khan chooses to thwart the vote of no confidence motion, it will be an unconstitutional step and may have disastrous consequences.

Asked if there is a way the PTI government can still survive, Najam Sethi said, “It’s game over for Imran Khan. It has been shown on TV screens how his own lawmakers said they had no confidence in his leadership.”

In response to a question about whether he can fire any senior official out of anger, Sethi said that would make no difference and nothing would reverse the vote of no confidence. Even if he does fire a senior official, the new official would also be ‘neutral’, he said, suggesting that the PM will now be offered no support from the establishment.

Imran Khan must read the clear writing on the wall. Any unconstitutional move will be disastrous for himself and the country.
I feel, his biggest mistake was his untimely and futile recent visit to Moscow. Consequently, we have been more and more isolated internationally.
