Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Parvez Elahi has said that his party is both a government ally and an ‘independent party’, while adding that the opposition has garnered enough votes to pass the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Earlier, in an interview with Meher Bokhari on Hum News Tuesday night, Elahi claimed that he had been offered the role as Punjab chief minister by the opposition, an offer which the government had not extended.  During the interview, he observed that PM Imran had never learned how to build relationships.

Elahi later clarified his statements and said he believed the prime minister was an ‘honest’ person with good intentions.

The PML-Q has been at the centre of a tug-of-war between the opposition and the incumbent government, each attempting to woo the party to their side, often resorting to low-blows against each other.

Earlier PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat advised the incumbent government and the opposition to ease partisan tensions and refrain from the ‘politics of rallies and numbers‘.

The prime minister reportedly told his aides to stop making disparaging remarks about government allies in public.  Meanwhile, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) announced it would postpone its rally at D-Chowk by two days to allow foreign dignitaries attending the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit to enter Islamabad ‘peacefully.’
