In Dadu, A Family Seeks Justice For The 2018 Murder Of UC Chairman And His Two Sons - Allegedly By PPP Lawmaker
SSP Dadu Irfan Samo this past weekend, on Saturday, had to go to the venue of a demonstration staged on Indus Highway near Mehar town of Dadu district to assure protesters of action being taken by police. The demonstration called on Sindh Police to arrest and bring to justice MPA Burhan Chandio, who belongs to the PPP. Having already lasted for four hours by then, it was staged on the call of one Um-e-Rubab Chandio and the heirs of slain UC Chairman Balaidai Raees Karam Ullah Chandio and his two sons Mukhtiar and Qabil. The UC Chairman and his two sons had all been murdered in an attack on their residence in Mehar taluka in 2018. Um-e-Rubab Chandio is the daughter of the slain Mukthiar Chandio.

The SSP Samo assured the protesters that police teams, comprising six SHOs headed by a DSP, were trying to arrest the accused MPA Burhan Chandio after his bail application was rejected. Mr. Samo assured the protesters that within the next 24 hours, police teams would comply with court orders and act as per law without any fear or favour – and in doing so, would arrest the MPA. “Teams formed by myself have already conducted raids at various places of Dadu, Qambar-Shahdadkot, Larkana and other districts to locate the MPA as per the orders of the court,” he added.

The protesters, after the assurance by Mr. Samo ended their demonstration.

A judge of model Tiral Court in Dadu had a day earlier, on Friday, rejected the bail of MPA Burhan Khan Chandio in connection with the triple murder case in Dadu district on the 17th of January 2018. The judge turned down the bail of the PPP lawmaker after he had failed to attend the court proceedings where the reserved verdict on bail applications was announced by the trial court. Thereafter the judge ordered his immediate arrest.

The bail of another accused MPA Sardar Khan Chandio was granted after he submitted a surety bond of Rs 0.5 million.

Qambar-Shahdadkot district-based MPA Sardar Chandio and his younger brother Burhan Khan Chandio are among those accused in the murder of a former Union Council Chairman Raees Karamullah Chandio and his two sons Mukhtiar Chandio and Kamil Chandio. The names of the PPP lawmakers were initially not included in the triple-murder FIR until the Supreme Court took notice and ordered the police to include their names in the FIR and investigate their involvement in the murder.

Um-e-Rubab Chandio, the complainant of the case, speaking to the media after the rejection of the bail of one of the accused brothers, demanded his early arrest and announced also that she would challenge the bail of MPA Sardar Chandio. She said that rejection of the bail of one of the killers by her close relatives was the first step towards her long struggle to get justice.

For his part, MPA Sardar Chandio had claimed that his brother could not attend the hearing in the court due to an ailment, and announced that he would instead file the application for the bail of his brother.
