As many as 20 people have been booked for torturing a pig to death in Badin district on Saturday. Badin SSP Shahnawaz Chachar took notice of the viral video clip showing the men mercilessly beating up the pig.

On the SSP's orders, FIR was registered against the accused under section 429 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Prevention of Cruelty to Animal Act 1890. The case was registered on the complaint of Assistant Sub-inspector Fateh Mohammad Loond -- on the behalf of state.

Those nominated in the FIR include Ali Bhurgari, Hafeez Bajeer, Pervez Shah, Qasim Mallah, Sajjad Ali Bhurgari Rajab Khoso and others. The complainant in his statement said that the accused took the pig from the jungle in village Hussain Bajeer on January 27 and tied it with a rope and mercilessly tortured it to death.

Chachar told Friday Times that he had directed the police officials to arrest all those nominated in the FIR and produce them before the court at the earliest. He said that it was established during the initial investigation that the pig was not a danger to crops or locals in the area, and that the accused tortured him 'for fun'.
