Convict Serving Life Term For Murder Wins Accountancy Scholarship From Karachi Jail
An inmate of the Karachi Central Jail, who has been imprisoned for 11 years now, has won a Rs. 1 million scholarship for a qualification in chartered accountancy. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) awarded the scholarship to Naeem Shah, who is serving a life sentence for murder.

Shah took up studies while imprisoned, completing the equivalent of school studies through matriculation and intermediate examinations. Having secured excellent marks, he then approached ICAP, which found him eligible for studies on scholarship.

Prison authorities state that Shah was a well-mannered inmate, who devoted most of his time to studies rather than the usual interactions of prisoners. Due to his commitment to his studies, the prison authorities are reported to have encouraged and assisted him in his efforts.
