Rape Charges Against Cricketer Yasir Shah Dropped, Survivor Says Added His Name 'Mistakenly'
Rape charges against test cricketer Yasir Shah have been dropped in the case filed by a 14-year-old girl after the alleged victim said that she had 'mistakenly' added the cricketer's name to the first information report (FIR) and retracted her statement.

Police confirmed in a statement, "Yasir Shah has no link to the alleged rape case [...] the complainant has also requested to remove Yasir Shah's name from the case."

Following the announcement, Shah took to twitter to acknowledge the dropped charges.

"The truth has been prevailed," the cricketer wrote, adding that anyone who had tried to defame him, a representative of Pakistan, was also defaming the entire republic.

"Only the haters of the country can stoop so low and do things like this for personal interests," his post read.

Yasir Shah had been charged with rape and harassment in December of 2021. The victim, a 14-year-old girl, had alleged in her previous statement that she had been raped at gunpoint by Yasir's friend.  She had alleged that Yasir had threatened her if she went to authorities.

"When I approached Yasir on WhatsApp and told him about the incident, he made fun of me and said that he likes underage girls," the victim reported in the original FIR.  "Yasir Shah said that he was a very influential person and that he knew a high-ranking official [...] Yasir Shah and Farhan make videos and rape underage girls."

This is the second high-profile sexual assault case in as many days in which the victim has suddenly recanted their statement against their alleged abuser.  On Tuesday, the victims in the Usman Mizar harassment case also retracted their statement, claiming that the suspect was not involved.
