Burqa-Clad Men Arrested For Sexually Harassing Women At Lahore's Greater Iqbal Park
Two men disguised in burkas were arrested by police for sexually harassing women and families at Lahore’s Greater Iqbal Park on Sunday.

The men, identified only as Subhan and Usman, were arrested by the police’s anti-riot force on Sunday for the suspicious behavior. The culprits have been transferred to the city’s Lari Adda police station where strict legal action will be taken against them, according to the superintendent of police (SP) of the anti-riot force.

“Harassers do not deserve any concession,” the SP said.

Police contend that the burqas were used by the men to hide their identities.

This is the second incident of harassment at Greater Iqbal Park in less than a year. In August, 2021, more than 400 men attacked a woman, Aisha Akram.  The incident went viral on social media, after a video circulated showing a crowd of hundreds of men converging onto Akram.

Akram was said to have been at the Park on Independence Day to film a TikTok video.

The victim had reported that men groped her, ripped off her clothes, beat her, and threw her in the air.  The also robbed her mobile phone, gold ring and jewelry, and Rs.15,000.

Police registered a case against 400 people involved in the case, although 104 were ultimately arrested.
